The Fountain of the Winged Putto in Piazza Garibaldi
The fountain in Piazza Garibaldi, built in an eclectic style, consists of a dodecagonal basin and - as mentioned - a "column" supporting a plate and a winged putto. It was built in 1858 by the workers of the Municipality on the basis of a design by the architect Vallon, to adorn the then new Piazza Elisabetta (so named in honor of the Empress of Austria, on the occasion of her first visit to Trieste in 1856), progressively incorporated into the urban fabric.
