Casa Valdoni (1908)
via Commerciale 25
Arch. Giorgio Zanionovich
Casa Valdoni of the family of the Trieste surgeon Pietro Valdoni, work of the architect Giorgio Zaninovich, pupil of Otto Wagner (1908).
The house is also called Casa del Fauno.
In the center there are two couples of children surrounded by plants and flowers in an attitude of singing or recalling each other, while on the two sides appear a faun playing the flute and, on the opposite, a nymph (and not a funessa) unfortunately mutilated, who perhaps supported a lyre or other musical instrument.
The supports or support brackets for the balcony are also extremely heavy.
Other houses in Trieste are decorated with ornamental sculptural works, a remnant of an Art Nouveau style which fortunately is not always so misinterpreted.
