Palazzo Tonello (1801)
piazza Goldoni
Arch. Sebastiano Zanon

The building was built in 1801 on a project by Sebastiano Zanon, on the bottom of an eighteenth-century villa which originally belonged to the Flemish architect Johan Conrad de Gerhard and from 1781 to the Greek-Eastern Community.
In the early nineteenth century the building was owned by Domenico Rossetti and in 1839 it became the home of the owner Giuseppe Tonello, hence the name of the house.
From 1897 to 1987 the building housed the headquarters of the newspaper "Il Piccolo", the first issue of which came out on December 29, 1881 in 32 copies.
In 1897 the founder of the newspaper, Teodoro Mayer, purchased the Tonello building, which remained the property of the family until 1988.
The building was set on fire by the Austrians on May 23, 1915.
The structure was affected by restoration works between 2004 and 2005.
