Palazzo Modello (1871 - 1873)
piazza UnitĂ di Italia
Arch. Giuseppe Bruni
The building is located between the Town Hall and Palazzo Stratti and was always built by the architect Giuseppe Bruni between 1871 and 1873, taking the place of the old churches of San Pietro and San Rocco that were located there. The building was designed following indications from the Municipality and was nicknamed Model because it was to serve as an architectural example for the renovation that was taking place in the then Piazza Grande.
At the beginning it was used as a hotel, which however stopped operating around 1912. In its place there were the offices of the Municipality. On the top floor of the building there are statues (Telamoni) that are a bit special: they are in fact carved in the act of touching the private parts, in a superstitious gesture.
